What I've learned is that Darkest Dungeon is not a typical RPG, treat it as such as it will kick your ass. Darkest Dungeon II is a roguelike road trip of the damned. I spent several turns frantically healing what I could while chipping away at the undead minions so once my group was healed up to a decent level I could more fully unload on the boss.īut like I said, despite that I was fully engaged with it which is a difficult feat with a turn-based RPG like this. Then the boss slapped me for my foolishness and over half the fight I was frantic and unable to tear myself from the screen even if I had wanted to. Hell even the dungeon battles leading up to the boss had gone far better than anything I had previously encountered which made me even more confident. The beginning of the fight things were going well and I got pretty confident that I would beat the Apprentice Necromancer without too much trouble. At the time I am posting this Darkest DUngeon 2 is still in early access and is only available through the Epic Game Store (which I have no affiliation with).
And a bit part of it was that I had limited healing ability tied with the stress afflictions they all had. As frustrating and tense as that first boss fight was also one of the most engaging boss battle I've played since Dark Souls 2.
